BELVEDERE PLANTATION

Belvedere Plantation was built along the Rappahannock River in the 1760’s by Col. William Dangerfield as a modest sized plantation. At the beginning of the 20th century, Belvedere was also known as “The Peony Farm”. These flowers were cut as buds in May and then shipped to metropolitan cities in the northeast.

The Fulks family purchased the property in 1968. The strawberry fields grew to 20 acres during the height of the pick-your-own era of the early 1980’s. The Great Pumpkin Patch began in 1983 to expand the direct marketing efforts of the farm. In 1997, The Great Adventure Maize Maze was opened.

The farm continues to be a working production farm growing grain crops, rye straw and pumpkins. The Fall Harvest Festival still features the Great Pumpkin Patch and the Great Adventure Maize Maze as our primary focus with over 25 attractions, nearly all of them included in the price of admission. Food is abundant on the farm with six different venues offering a variety of options from burgers and hot sandwiches to pizza, funnel cakes, shaved ice and kettle corn.

Although the farm will not be open when we visit, as it’s a fall festival location, there will be plenty of valuable information and data points shared. There will also be time to self-tour the operation and see some of the venues that exist year-round on the farm.
